A recent report shows over 80,000 people in Cook County often go more than a mile without access to a large-scale retail food establishment. These conditions often referred to as a “food desert” have left many Chicagoans settling for unhealthy food options that could lead to poor health. A new bill designed to address these problems would utilize vacant lots for urban agriculture zones and boost the sale of locally-grown foods.
