There are 17 confirmed dead in Wednesday’s mass shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida, with many more injured. School shootings have become the new normal—so says the former Chief of Police for New York City.

In commenting on the shooting, former New York City Police Chief Bill Bratton said, “This is something that will just continue to occur.” If that’s the case, what safety measures are in place to protect students at schools here in the Chicago area?
