Purnima Nath, a Milwaukee-based engineer and professional singer, says her lower-middle class roots from her youth in India influences her life’s mission to foster community diversity and social inclusion. Nath’s passion for singing, community engagement, and India’s culture drove her to create IndiaFest Milwaukee, a one-day celebration of India’s Independence Day, highlighting Indo culture, food, history and community.  Nath says the festival strives to “bring together communities…beyond borders, boundaries, language, religion and region; focusing on promoting diversity, unity, culture and collaboration, for a better today and stronger tomorrow.” She returns to tell us about the offerings for 2018, and also how her work led this year to Wisconsin Governor, Scott Walker, naming August 15th “India Day”. IndiaFest Milwaukee is Saturday, August 18th, 11:00am-9:00pm at Humboldt Park, 3000 S. Howell Ave. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
