International Peace Day Started in Chicago. Meet Three Religious Women Keeping it Going.

Chicago was an early pioneer when it began its celebration of Peace Day in 1978. The UN jumped on board creating The International Day of Peace on September 21st, 1981. This year Chicago’s “Build the Peace Committee” marks Chicago’s 40th peace day on September 17th with an event at Daley Plaza. Our guests today are active peacemakers in their communities and have peace events of their own. Angela Hicks is Executive Director of Margaret's Village, Sr. Donna Liette works at the Precious Blood Ministry of Reconciliation Center, and Pastor Donna Arnold is a minister at CTC Glory of the Latter House Ministries.

An earlier version of this story listed September 19th as the date for Chicago's 40th annual Peace Day -- that was incorrect. The event is taking place on Monday, September 17th.
