On March 15, 2019, thousands of students skipped school, striking to demand action on climate change. Now, they’ll do it again. This Friday, May 3, Chicago students will join the United States Youth Climate Strike’s second nationwide strike. They represent one piece of a vast network of activists fighting climate change and calling for swift legislative action. Joining Worldview to discuss the Green New Deal and their urgency to address climate change are Isabella Johnson and Anya Sastry. They are Illinois state co-leads for the U.S. Youth Climate Strike organization and the main organizers of this Friday’s strike. Along with Isabella and Anya, we hear from renowned activist and writer Bill McKibben, co-founder of 350.org, an international movement to eliminate fossil fuels and accelerate the transition to renewable energy. Also in studio is Dejah Powell, outreach team lead for Sunrise Chicago, a local chapter of the national youth organization Sunrise Movement, which aims to “stop the climate crisis.”
