Opening statements begin today in the R. Kelly child pornography trial.

Because of the gag order, much of the information in this high-profile trial is sealed. And it’s unknown how the defense and prosecutors plan to play their respective sides. The witness list is sealed.

The singer, who’s real name is Robert Kelly, is charged with 14 counts of child pornography. The Chicago native is a married father of three and a platinum-selling R&B artist.

One thing is for certain in this case: the 26-minute sex tape will be shown in open court for the media and public to view. Lawyers for both sides had objected to the judge’s decision.

The tape is central to this case. Prosecutors say Kelly is the man in the video having sex and urinating on a girl as young as 13 years old. Prosecutors say the tape was made between 1998 and 2000. The alleged victim is now in her 20s.

If convicted, Kelly could get up to 15 years in prison.
