‘Asylum City’: First-Person Stories From Asylum Seekers’ In Chicago

Kash grew up in Kingston, Jamaica, in Seaview Gardens, an area known for crime and gang violence. Homosexual acts are outlawed in Jamaica, and as a boy and young man Kash faced constant threats for his sexual orientation. Despite this harassment, he started writing about gay rights in local newspapers and became a leader in his university’s Rotaract club.

In the new series “Asylum City,” Borderless Magazine uses first-person accounts from asylum seekers about their challenging and sometimes dangerous journeys to Chicago.

Reset sits down with some of the creators of the new launch project.
