For generations, Chicago’s sprawling South Side has been home to many black working-and middle-class neighborhoods. And now those homeowners are aging. Some South Siders worry that if more young buyers don’t move in, their neighborhoods could decline. So they’re out to update houses and, along the way, the South Side’s image with new generations.
