Manish Jain grew up in Willowbrook, Illinois. After college at Brown and Harvard, he felt compelled to give back to his ancestral India. Jain’s conventional education and career at multilateral institutions, like UNESCO, left him wanting. So he sought out alternative approaches to educating, mentoring and training youth. Jain and a group of friends moved to India to create Swaraj University. The school includes an urban youth center and biodiverse ashram. Worldview visited Swaraj University in 2015. For our Global Activism segment, Jain is back in Chicago to update us on his school that doesn’t grant diplomas, but has changed the lives of young people in India.
