GoT 7.7: The Wolf And The Dragon
A lot of action went down in this season finale. The zombie summit flew off the rails, Sansa dispensed some sweet justice, Theon discovered his super power, and the Night King took his dragon out for a test drive.
Nerdette’s Greta Johnsen and Tricia Bobeda review all of that and more with Wait Wait … Don’t Tell Me!’s Peter Sagal, and they also guess what the Night King calls his new pet dragon.
And even though this week’s Game of Thrones was the season finale, there will be another recap episode next week. It’ll be taped in front of an audience at Wednesday’s sold-out recap party, and it’s probably going to be more lit than Melisandre’s surprise to Shireen Baratheon.

On the zombie summit
Greta: I considered it a TED Talk for how to kill a zombie.
Peter: That would have been awesome if Jon Snow stood up with one of those little mics. “Hi. So, I … live … at Castle Black. I’m part of the Night’s Watch, and it’s an organization devoted to being the shield of the realms of men. In my work …” (laughs).
Tricia: “I’m the TED prize winner this year, which means I need you, all of the wealthy influencers of Westeros.”
On the reunions
Greta: What was your favorite little reunion in that scene?
Tricia: The Hound and Brienne. Pod and everybody is always fun, too, because I just like Podrick a lot. But the whole, “Oh, our little sociopath is grown up,” between the Hound and Brienne was kind of sweet.
Peter: There was this wonderful moment of awkwardness. I mean, I’ve been in a lot of socially awkward situations in my life.
Greta: Really?
Peter: Yes, but I’ve never been in one where I run into a guy who I had recently killed and he’s not dead and I’m like, “OK, I killed you and I feel kind of bad now because you’re here.”
Tricia: Awkward.
On the best part of the big ‘reveal’
Peter: We have to talk about the Three-Eyed Raven, because I honestly think there was nothing better in this entire season of television, seven-plus hours, than Sam’s reaction when Bran says, “I’m the Three-Eyed Raven.” And Sam’s reaction, “Ohhh.”
To me, it was like reacting to someone saying, “Oh, I’ve become really involved in selling health products to my friends.” And I’m like, “Oh, that’s really good for you.”

What was up with Tyrion after he saw Jon go into Dany’s corridors on the ship? He looked to be upset or maybe nervous.

Peter: In my viewing party last night, there were a lot of “friend zone” jokes, which were more apropos for the way that Jorah reacted to the boat cruise back when they were discussing it. But I don’t think that’s Tyrion’s problem, although who knows. Everybody seems to fall in love with Dany. It seemed like his alarm was probably more about what this now personal alliance — “he said wagging his eyebrows” — is going to mean for his plans for the future.
Tricia: Is he going, “I’m losing power and influence right now”? He knows that’s happening, because if Jon and Dany are joining forces — more wagging of eyebrows — then he is no longer the right hand to her and the closest confidant. He’s going to be second fiddle in terms of how much influence his advice has. And he knows that Jon is kind of dumb.
Greta: Do you think that Dany telling Jon that she couldn’t have kids was Jon just being like, “Challenge accepted”?
Peter: Possibly. I was really wondering about that because that was really disorientating to me.
Greta: But when she puts it like, “Well, this witch told me,” it is kind of like, “Wait a second.”
