The Chicago Bears will start their second-string quarterback Sunday when they head west to face the Oakland Raiders. Lucky for the Bears, the Raiders are also starting a replacement QB of sorts.

The Raiders’ Carson Palmer isn’t as new to the job as the Bears’ Caleb Hanie.

Palmer served as the starting QB for the Cincinnati Bengals for years before being traded to the Raiders this season. He’s been shaky for Oakland, which could favor the Bears.

Hanie’s thrown a handful of passes in his three years in the league.

He played well in last year’s NFC championship game when he came off the bench to replace a hurt Jay Cutler.

Of course, he did throw two interceptions, including one with only seconds left in last year’s debacle at Soldier Field.

Hanie will replace Cutler again Sunday after Cutler broke his thumb in last ‘s win over the San Diego Chargers.   

Hanie says he plans to take full advantage of this opportunity.

“You never want it to come at the expense of one of your good friends but you have to take advantage of opportunities if they’re given to you, so that’s what I’m going to try to do,” Hanie told reporters earlier this week.

If the 7-and-3 Bears win, they’ll cement themselves behind the 1st-place and still undefeated Green Bay Packers but in front of the suddenly fading Detroit Lions.

The Lions lost on Thanksgiving Day to the Packers 27 to 15. The win moved Green Bay to 11-0 in the NFC North Division, with Detroit taking sole possession of third place at 7-4.
