Judge Mulls Request For Probe Into Alleged Police Cover-Up

A Cook County judge is considering a request for an investigation of an alleged police cover-up after the shooting of Laquan McDonald. Officer Jason Van Dyke faces murder charges in the shooting. Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez withdrew her office from the case in May.

Judge Vincent Gaughan agreed to appoint a special prosecutor. A civil-rights coalition is asking him to expand the case to other officers. The judge has set a hearing on that request for Friday.
