Lawsuit alleges AI was used to discriminate against renters using housing vouchers
It is illegal to discriminate against tenants in the state of Illinois based on their source of income.
Open Communities, an Evanston-based housing advocacy group, filed a federal lawsuit last month alleging that some companies use “artificial intelligence entities” to discriminate against renters. A six-month investigation by the group found over 100 instances of AI tools sending an automated response to turn away customers with questions about housing vouchers.
