By Steve BynumReyna Torres Mendivil is the newest consul general of Mexico in Chicago, coming to the posting after serving as consul general in San Antonio, Texas. She arrived in Chicago shortly before the Trump Administration announced plans to launch a series of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids following the July 4 holiday. Twenty-five percent of all U.S. immigrants are from Mexico, making Mexico the largest source of immigrants to the U.S. Approximately 43% of Mexican immigrants living in the United States in 2017 were in the country illegally in 2017, according to numbers from the Pew Research Center. Mexico is also the U.S.’ number one trade partner, and earlier this month ratified a new North American free-trade agreement. Mendivil joins us to discuss these and other issues of importance to the U.S.-Mexico relationship.
