Michael Kutza, an award-winning filmmaker and graphic designer, founded the Chicago International Film Festival (CIFF) in 1964 to “provide an alternative to the commercial Hollywood movies that dominated the city’s theaters.” This year marks the 54th and last CIFF for Kutza, who announced his retirement. WBEZ Film Contributor Milos Stehlik, director at Facets Chicago, will talk with the CIFF’s new artistic director, Mimi Plauche, about this year’s festival and her vision, going forward. One highlight during the 2018 festival will be a screening of former Worldview intern, Assia Boundaoui’s, award-winning documentary, “The Feeling of Being Watched.” A recent hit at the Tribeca festival, the film investigates the decades-long FBI surveillance of Bridgeview, Illinois’ Muslim community, known as “Operation Vulgar Betrayal”.
