Chicago filed a lawsuit Monday against the Department of Justice arguing the Trump administration’s immigration policies are a threat to the city’s public safety.
Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said the DOJ’s policies break down the trust between communities and police. Johnson, who admits that trust is already fractured, formed the Community Policing Advisory Panel in October to learn what practices could help repair that trust.
That panel released its first draft of recommendations on Thursday. We speak with panel community representative Jim Lew about those recommendations.
