Chicago Police shot and killed a man early this morning on the city’s West Side.

Officials are releasing few details about the shooting on the 4200 block of West Ogden Avenue. Police officers had responded to a call for assistance at a residence on the block. Authorities say one officer fired shots with his duty weapon at an older man. That man died at the scene.

Ilana Rosenzweig is the chief administrator of the city’s newly created Independent Police Review Authority. She says officials are reviewing tapes and conducting interviews about the incident. Her office will determine whether the shooting was done within policy.

ROSENZWEIG: So until we have completed our investigation and reviewed all of those it would be premature to comment.

Neither the officer’s nor victim’s names have been released.
