The Sky Day Project is an initiative that combines art and science to teach people how the sky functions and how it can be protected from environmental damage. The project’s founder, Ben Whitehouse, joins us to discuss how the initiative inspires and unites people through sky photography and other art. With him is Dr. Anna Nesbitt, another member of the SkyDay team who’s writing environment-themed curriculums for Illinois schools, and Dr. Kathryn Stevenson, lead author of an NC State study that demonstrated middle schoolers’ capabilities to educate parents about climate change - including ones that previously denied its existence. We’ll also hear from senior lecturer in science communication at Manchester Metropolitan University Sam Illingworth and artist Petra Bachmaier about how journalism and art can best disseminate scientific truths and raise awareness about the environment, and from NASA veteran astronaut Nicole Stott.
