Two Chicago police officers have been arrested for allegedly stealing money they thought was going to drug traffickers.

The officers are accused of taking $5,200. They allegedly stole the money from someone who was cooperating with the FBI and who was wearing a wire.

That witness told Chicago police officers Ronald Watts and Kallatt Mohammed the money was being transported from one drug trafficker to another. The officers allegedly stole the money from the witness and gave that person $400. Watts allegedly told the witness, quote, “Who always takes care of you?”

The two officers have each been with the department for more than 10 years.

If convicted, they face a maximum 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
