Every Friday, our Global Citizen Nari Safavi stops by for Weekend Passport, where he shows us how to travel the world without ever leaving Chicago. This week, we explore a six hour, outdoor theater project, years in the making. Theater Y’s “Camino Project” is inspired by their 2017 trip to Spain to walk a 500 mile pilgramage that dates from the 9th century, the Camino de Santiago. They’ve translated that experience to a five-mile walk through Bucktown and Humboldt Park ending with a celebratory meal. Theater Y aims to take participants on a journey that challenges the confines of traditional spectatorship, goes beyond politics, beyond consumerism and even beyond theater itself.
