Chicago is the birthplace of house music. Since Frankie Knuckles’ days at the Warehouse in the late 1970s and early 1980s, Chicago house music has grown into a genre not only celebrated in Chicago, but around the world.

This year’s Chicago House Music Festival takes place Saturday, May 26 from 1–9 p.m. at Millennium Park. The lineup includes Louie Vega and Elements of Life, Chez Damier, Mike Dunn and Ron Trent, to name a few.

We are joined by David Chavez. Chavez is Program Coordinator of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) and an organizer of this year’s House Music Festival. Chavez is also a DJ and the founder of Sound Culture Chicago. We’re also joined by Nari Safavi to learn about more ways to have an international good time on the weekend.
