President Biden has granted Temporary Protected Status for Venezuelans who came to the U.S. before July 31, 2023.
TPS will give thousands of Venezuelan asylum seekers permits to work lawfully in the U.S. Advocates and volunteers hope this will help ease the strain on shelters. But this protected status will only last for 18 months, and it does not include the busloads of people that continue to arrive in the city.
