Dennis Rodkin for Crain’s Chicago Business

Residents of west suburban Wheaton are fretting over a plan to demolish a 19th-century mansion, which has been home to a convent since 1948.

Crain's Chicago Business real estate reporter Dennis Rodkin, who recently wrote about the plan, tells Morning Shift that the order--which has shrunk from 80 to just 9 nuns--needs the money that Atlanta-based developer Pulte Homes is offering.

But some in the town said that with so much land available in the area, there’s no reason to tear down a gorgeous building. Pulte plans to put dozens of new homes in its place.

Hear the full saga by listening to Rodkin's conversation with Morning Shift's Tony Sarabia above.
