For some of us, winter in Chicago has us wanting to stay inside, burrow in our warmest blanket and hibernate for the season. But if you’re getting a little stir crazy, why not try grabbing your camera (or your camera phone) and exploring some of the best scenes the greater Chicago area has to offer?

Nature photographer Mike MacDonald does just that. He’s the author of the book My Journey into the Wilds of Chicago and he’s a pro at finding some of the most idyllic spots around. He joins Morning Shift with some tips on how to get outside even if it’s cold, and how to get that picture-perfect shot.
