A coalition of community groups says it’s reversed a foreclosure crisis that devastated part of Chicago’s Southwest Side. The Southwest Organizing Project worked with community groups and private developers to acquire, rehab and either sell or rent vacant buildings in a 20-square block area near Marquette Park at affordable rates. They say the result has been rising property values, safer streets and improving schools.
