Tulia’s Artisan Gallery Brings Colombia’s Artistic Beauty To America

Colombian-American, Karen Torres, grew up in Chicago, but always marveled at the beauty of her ancestral land during family visits.

A dearth of Colombian art in Chicago’s art scene inspired Torres to think about how to introduce Chicago to Colombian art and also help Colombian artisans. So she started Tulia’s Artisan Gallery, a virtual and online enterprise to provide Fair Trade opportunities for Colombian artisans, especially the country’s indigenous and Afro-Colombian women.

Torres joins us for our Global Activism segment to tell us about working to show Americans that “Colombia is much more than drugs, violence and war.”
