What to see
Improvised D&D at Otherworld Theatre- Improvised Dungeons and Dragons brings classic tabletop role-playing games to life in this 90-minute improvised show at 3914 N. Clark Street on Sundays, 7 p.m. Tickets are pay-what-you-can.
Dorothy Does Oz: A Nerdlesque Parody at Otherworld Theatre- The show will run Fridays and Saturdays from Aug. 9 to 31, 9 p.m., at Otherworld Theatre. Tickets are $25, but be sure to bring cash to tip the performers and bartenders.
The One: A Matrix Musical Parody at The Den Theatre- The two-act story features an original score, dance battles, pop songs and puppets at 1331 N. Milwaukee Ave. for the next three consecutive weekends. Tickets are $25.
What to hear
Meet My Cat Fundraiser for The Catcade- The fundraiser benefits The Catcade, an arcade and coffee shop with adoptable cats at 1235 W. Belmont Ave.
Festival Cubano at Riis Park - This festival at 6100 N. Fullerton Ave. will feature a lineup of Julian "Jumpin" Perez, Hector "El Torito" Acosta, Buena Vista Social Club and others all weekend.
What to eat
Cafe Tola- Eat tacos and tortas served in a somewhat geeky decorated atmosphere at one of Cafe Tola's locations. Elliott suggests the breakfast taco and horchata latte.
Wormhole Coffee - Enjoy a cup of coffee at Chicago's pop-culture themed coffee shop featuring a time traveling DeLorean at 1462 N. Milwaukeea
The Bluebox Cafe - Eat like a Time Lord at the Midwest's first and only Doctor Who-themed coffee shop in Elgin.
