City Clerk Anna Valencia and Mayor Rahm Emanuel are introducing an ordinance for a new municipal ID program in Chicago. The municipal ID will be a government-issued ID that’s available to all residents of Chicago. Emanuel has often touted the program as a way to make Chicago more welcoming to immigrants.
A draft of the ordinance seeks to allay concerns over the security of cardholders’ personal information by saying the city will review — but not collect — documents from applicants.
