Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is asking teachers not to walk out of the classroom this Friday.
If you want to know what the Chicago Teachers Union is planning for that day, look no further than the front page of their website. The Union posted a call for all its members to march in a day of action against “Mayor Rahm Emanuel and his handpicked board of education, Gov. Bruce Rauner, billionaire Ken Griffin and the rest of the 1%”
For his part, Emanuel said he would join hands with the union in trying to get Springfield to change the way it funds education, but he said striking during a school day isn’t the way to do that.
“I understand and appreciate the teachers have a challenge with Springfield. Get in line, there’s a lot of people who have a challenge with what’s happening in Springfield, but do not take it out on our students,” he said.
The school district cancelled school last Friday as a way to save money.
