Wrestling And Politics Mix It Up In Trump Video, New Netflix Show ‘GLOW’

All of a sudden, professional wrestling seems to be back in the American spotlight.

There’s GLOW, a new Netflix dramedy about women’s professional wrestling. There's also an Appalachian wrestler named The Progressive Liberal, who takes the persona of an East Coast wrestler competing on the semi-pro circuit dressed in a Hillary Clinton leotard. His signature move is cross-arm neckbreaker he calls “The Liberal Agenda” — and crowds love it. There's also President Trump, who posted a video on Twitter Sunday that shows him clotheslining a person with a CNN icon for a head.

Morning Shift explores this cultural moment when wrestling and politics are mixing it up on TV, in our nation’s capital and beyond.

We're joined by Chad, the mononymous co-host of the pro-wrestling podcast The Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling and writer, producer and actor Fawzia Mirza. In her new film Signature Move, Mirza plays a thirty-something Pakistani Muslim lesbian in Chicago who also happens to be learning the art of professional wrestling.
